My Choice

I chose Elizabeth Cady-Stanton because I have always been in awe of her. She never let circumstance stand in her way. I also feel that she never really knew the difference she had made. While she was alive many of the laws governing women in marriage were changed. Women were given more rights to property. They were also granted more rights to raising their children. But she never got to she her ultimate goal come true. Plus, she had seven children that alone is a feat!

  1. Janel,
I am impressed by the leader that you selected because she broke barriers. She must have been fearless and true to her mission. We are asked to deveop a personal mission as a leader for this class. Cady Stanton clearly set hers early in life and spent her life promoting it. I found it very interesting in the biography that you provide that her personality was formed to a large degree because her father wanted a son when she was born so she developed "malelike" characteristics, which probably helped her to become the person she would be in a time in history when women were socialized to be very different. My leader is Hillary Clinton. She didn't fight as many obstacles in society as Cady Stanton but likewise formed a mission early in her life as a law student at Yale and has dedicated her life to causes in which she beleives. As you say she accomplished all of the changes for women while raising seven children! She must have been a very energenic woman, clearly a "Controller"!
